An active, hands-on workshop exploring litter attendant movement and rigging. For rescues in the field that go over an edge -- we hope are lessthan 90 degrees -- the CMC Skills Lab will allow us to facilitate an aggressive edge and explore the pros and cons of litter setups with an attendant. Participants need to bring helmet, harness, gloves and gear to move up and down rope.

We reviewed 168 avalanche fatalities in Colorado between October 1993 and October 2025, using coroner and autopsy reports to determine thecause of death and, when possible, calculate an Injury Severity Score. This builds on our 2018 research, which found asphyxia was the cause of death in 65% of fatalities and trauma in 29%. In addition to 10 more years of data, we have increased our ability to compare fatal and non-fatal avalanche involvements. We will present initial results and insights relevant to avalanche rescue.
