Upper Extremity Splinting
This hands-on session was based on a scenario of a skier vs. fixed object complaining of upper extremity pain. Participants were to perform a rapid trauma assessment, rule out life-threatening injuries, and splint the patient's arms such that the patient could be transported. After scenario discussion included anatomy and physiology of the shoulders, arms and hands; splinting techniques for humerus and radius/ulna, sling/swath best practice for the shoulder and elbow joints. Discussed splinting as a BLS Pain Management skill, ALS pain management options and documentation for this injury using the agency's proprietary e-PCR.
