CCEMS-CCFA April 17, 2024 CE Diamond of Death & Whole Blood Resuscitation
This training consists of a Lecture & Skills portion. Lecture is on trauma resuscitation in the prehospital environment. It discusses aspects of the Diamond of Death which Include, hypothermia, acidosis, hypocalcemia & cogaulopathy. This includes managing the temperature of the patient and using warming, avoiding acidosis by limiting crystalloid infusion (consider whole blood in areas where available). Skill portion will include whole blood administration equipment and system set up. spiking IV bags and set up..

Objectives:
1) Be able to name the 4 aspects of the diamond of death.
2) Be able to describe the the importance of managing temperature and acidosis in a the trauma patient and how it effect patient outcome.
3) Be able to name the pathophysiology of the role of calcium in the trauma patient
4) Be able to demonstrate how to set up for a whole blood transfusion.
