Chest and Abdominal Trauma
Case review presented by Dr. Dan Johnson, MD, of chest and abdominal trauma from skier/snowboarder injuries. Review of anatomy in abdominal cavity with special attention to structure and function of the kidneys. CT images available for viewing and discussion of hospital care after pre-hospital care and transport. X-ray image review of chest with pneumothorax and the pre-hospital/EMS treatment of these patients. Discussion and warning regarding the specific signs and symptoms of abdominal trauma patients in that significant injuries might have symptoms that take a long time to develop and can be missed in the pre-hospital setting - message to treat conservatively and use clinical observation as a tool prior to patient leaving.
