Evergreen Fire (IH) Intro to Critical Care skills

Review of oxygenation and ventilation physiology including positioning, suctioning, PEEP, pre- and apneic-oxygenation, two-thumbs down BVM ventilation, and IGel/AirQ.   Discussion over when RSI (Resuscitative Sequence Intubation [formerly Rapid and Delayed]) is necessary and appropriate and inappropriate.  Review Glidescope.  Introduction to and use of the Airway (RSI) checklist as we run through hands-on scenarios.

After BLS practice for everyone, those in the Critical Care Class will run the scenarios while all others practice being the checklist monitor and assisting with appropriate skills.

Learning Objectives

Objective 1:

By the end of this training, the participant will be able to demonstrate Airway management through positioning, suctioning, adjuncts, basic BVM ventilations and IGel/AirQ.  Evergreen Paramedics will also demonstrate use of the Glidescope.

Objective 2:

By the end of this training, the participant will be able to describe physiology and assessment related to decision-making regarding Airway, up to and including RSI.

Objective 3:

By the end of this training, all participants will be able to focus on the Airway checklist and firmly communicate items therein to all on-scene.

Objective 4:

By the end of this training, Critical Care Class participants will be able to detail the necessity of RSI and delegate assignments before safely implementing all pre-RSI; RSI; and post-RSI demands.
