Evergreen Fire Rescue Emergency Vehicle Operations Course 8 hour Oct 2025
This Ambulance and Emergency Driving course provides new ambulance drivers with a solid foundation for safe and effective EMS vehicle operations. In this full-day course, students learn key driving techniques, relevant emergency vehicle operation laws, standard operating guidelines (SOGs), and essential vehicle and driver dynamics. Students demonstrate proficiency in backing, emergency driving, spatial awareness, and accident avoidance through extensive road-course practice and obstacle-based driving exercises.

Learning Objectives
1. Learn vehicle dynamics as they pertain to braking and steering in an ambulance.
2. Learn vehicle control techniques and strategies, including hand positioning, brake and accelerator use and eyes up scanning needed for safe ambulance operations.
3. Learn strategies to improve backing safety and reinforce the need and use of a backer while operating an ambulance.
4. Review emergency driving local Law C.R.S. 42-4-108 and Departments driving SOGs. Review case law pertaining to emergency vehicle operations. Discuss the liability of emergency vehicle operations. Understand the terms "Due Regard" "Negligence" "Liability" "criminal" and "civil"
5. Display competency and spatial awareness in slow speed and high speed forward driving, backing and accident avoidance, during ambulance operations through skill stations and full course driving.
