Interagency Extrication and Stabilization of a Patient in a High Angle Environment
A scenario was created on the East Wall at Arapahoe Basin at 12,500' where a climber fell and was rendered unconscious. The task was to locate, and secure the patient, provide any life-saving interventions, load the patient into a Stokes Litter maintaining SMR protocols and using a dual-tensioned twin-ropes system, lower the patient to a rendezvous point where they can be transferred and transported to definitive care. To do this, Arapahoe Basin Mountain Patrol would need to work with Summit County Rescue Group. We established a command post off the road, with visuals of the East Wall. Tech rescuers from ABMP and SCRG worked together to locate, package and transport the patient. Ultimatley this training was called off at 13:00hrs due to unsafe weather conditions (lighting) in the area and a real rescue operating in the county, requiring SCRG team members and gear. When the training was concluded, the patient had been lowered ~ 400ft. Teams were designated before deploying: ancho, litter, lead medical, site command and incident command.
