The presentation will discuss what an autistic spectrum disorder is, what low and high functioning autism is and the 4 types of autism. It will also discuss and demonstrate thought the latest research (as of Sep 2025).  This course will also discuss Search & Rescue operations, 4 things to know when encountering a autistic person who is missing. Also including how to lure an autistic individual back to safety, as well as the latest tracking devices & apps used by caregivers. This course will also give a first responder 7 tools they can use with training on how to use these tools should they encounter an autistic individual.

Learning Objectives

 Objectives:

  1. First Responders will be able to describe what autism spectrum disorder is & how it can present in autistic individuals.
  2. First Responders are able to describe and name 7 strategies, ways to interact & the importance when evaluating and autistic patient.
  3. First Responders are able to name typical behavioral patterns seen in autistic individuals who are under stressful situations (e.g., fire, medical emergency), and ways to approach these situations, including the most important safety rule to prevent a wandering/bolt risk.
  4. First responder will be able to name 4 questions to ask in a search and rescue situation of an autistic person whom has wandering off or is missing.
