Pediatric and OB Emergencies for the Prehospital Provider
Drs. Doucette and Schumacher each gave 1 hour lectures on Pediatric Assessment and Trauma, and Obstetrical Emergencies and Imminent Delivery, respectively. Dr. Marc Doucette is Arapahoe Basin Ski Patrol's Medical Director, and his collegue Dr. Ryan Schumacher is an emergency physician, but was once a full-time ski patroller. Both doctors lectured on anatomy and physiology of pediatric patients, including newborns, and pregnant mothers. Dr. Doucette's lecture topics included pediatric age group definitions, physiological differences, the pediatric assessment triangle, normal ranges for vital signs, trauma and shock in the ped. patient, CPR review and ended with a case review. Dr. Schumacher's presentation included trauma and complications in pregnancy, cardiac arrest of the pregnant patient, imminent delivery, eclampsia and preeclampsia, assessment of the pregnant patient and CPR considerations. Both doctors had a Powerpoint presentation for the group and held a question & answer session after their respective presentations.
