Psychological First Aid
This training discusses the treatment of psychological emergencies as well as addresses how stressors can affect patients and rescuers alike. Resources from Responder Alliance were reviewed to create a plan for patients and/or rescuers within the first 24 hours after a potentially traumatizing event (PTE) along with how to manage psychological symptoms in the field. The Stress Continuum is a tool reviewed for evaluating stress and readiness on a daily (or hourly if need be) basis. This training is based on Laura McGladrey's psychological first aid and resiliency curriculum for trained first responders (EMT-B). This training was conducted by Kali Flaherty, EMT-B, and Jack Western, EMT-IV.
