Dr. Tom Califf, MD is the Medical Director for Breckenridge Ski Patrol and works within the Summit County (CO) Trauma System as an Emergency Medicine physician with USACS. Interactive presentation addressing training needs for providers ahead of the ski season in certain situations including but not limited to: trauma arrest, medical arrest, unstable life-threats. Discussed professional goals for season: no trauma deaths, no needlesticks, reducing on-scene time/time to definitive care. Reviewed expectations for BLS and ALS providers regarding life saving interventions (MARCH) and Denver Metro Protocols as standards and baseline for county-wide trauma system. Informed on new whole blood availability and how to acquire it for patients. Review new protocol/alignment on Trauma Activation vs. Prenotification. Discussed evidence-based research and guidelines for c-collar and pelvic binder application, supraglottic airway vs. intubation, and transport priority over compressions in traumatic arrest.
