Traumatic Brain Injury and restraining combative patients
Trainees run through a scenario which presented them with one patient with obvious signs of death, and another patient that showed s/s of traumatic closed head injury. Second patient was combative. Trainees were assessed on recognizing obvious signs of death and their treatment of a combative head injury patient. We discussed anatomy and physiology of the nervous system, signs and symptoms of TBI and CHI, appropriate triage, treatment options in the field and how to safely physicallly and chemically restrain a combative patient per BLS and ALS protocols.
