We reviewed 168 avalanche fatalities in Colorado between October 1993 and October 2025, using coroner and autopsy reports to determine thecause of death and, when possible, calculate an Injury Severity Score. This builds on our 2018 research, which found asphyxia was the cause of death in 65% of fatalities and trauma in 29%. In addition to 10 more years of data, we have increased our ability to compare fatal and non-fatal avalanche involvements. We will present initial results and insights relevant to avalanche rescue.
