These sessions will introduce rope rescue technicians to the foundational skills of ascending and descending fixed lines as well as belaying. These techniques will be discussed, demonstrated and then opened to practice. Harness, helmet, and gloves will be required. Two sessions will be offered. They are not consecutive; rather, the second session is for those who were unable to sign up for the first session.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Flight For Life helicopter pilot Pemba Sherpa, a veteran of Nepal’s search and rescue programs with extensive experience operating in the Himalayas, including Mt. Everest. Capt Pemba Sherpa will be sharing some stories of his experience flying SAR in Nepal and the appreciation locals hold in their hearts for the SAR community. He will be linking his stories and experience from Nepal to the Rockies.

This session is for anyone who wants to better understand different disciplines dogs work within (e.g. trailing, air scent, avalanche, water) and how, when and why to use and work with a dog team. The session will include field demonstrations.

This session will demonstrate some simple and effective methods for building understanding of mechanical advantage systems: how and where forces are generated, and how to determine MA in an unfamiliar system. This session will be helpful for instructors or those just getting started in their rope education.

The Stop-the-Bleed and basic airway breakout session is a comprehensive review of two common trauma fundamentals. Airway and hemorrhage control are two clinical areas where rapid intervention can truly save lives. The Flight For Life flight team will combine these two fundamentals into a real world scenario for valuable training.
