Effective coordination with partners is crucial to the success of search and rescue missions. We will discuss interagency relationships through the evolution of an incident. These will include sheriffs, emergency managers, other policy makers, incident management teams, emergency operations centers, joint information centers, state/federal agencies, and other support organizations. The goal is to increase understanding of these relationships so effective communications and support can be maintained as we provide critical search and rescue capabilities to our communities and beyond.

The use of winches for technical rope rescue in the backcountry is becoming more and more prevalent. This 50-minute presentation will utilize hands-on demos to compare and contrast winches with traditional descent control devices and mechanical advantage systems for raising and lowering.

Extremity fractures are a common occurrence in backcountry rescue events. These injuries can make the care and movement of the patient very difficult. The Flight For Life team will review common splinting challenges and offer an opportunity to practice creative and efficient ways to immobilize extremity fractures.
